Especially left-libertarian social movements are eager to establish egalitarian and democratic structures both within their own ranks and the society at large. While there are some remarkable achievements when it comes to practices of internal democracy and prefigurative politics during the last few decades, there is little progress with regard to attempts to “democratize democracies.” Apparently this latter endeavour is an uphill struggle in which progressive social movements are facing powerful counterforces.
