Stefano is a PhD candidate in Political Science and Sociology at the Scuola Normale Superiore and a member of the Center on Social Movement Studies (COSMOS).
For his PhD research, Stefano is interested in studying how social movements construct a collective memory of former armed groups in the post-demobilisation context. Furthermore, he takes a generational approach by studying how memory differentiates among political generations and the role of remembering the armed group in constructing a movement generation’s collective identity. Besides an inter-generational analysis, Stefano aims to address an intra-generational study by investigating how radical and moderate movement flanks develop specific mnemonic practices.
Stefano holds a BA in International Studies from the University of Trento (Italy) and an MSc in International Development Studies from Wageningen University & Research (The Netherlands), and he completed an exchange period at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. For his master’s thesis, Stefano conducted a three-month-long ethnography in Medellín (Colombia), where he studied the struggle around the historical memory of the Colombian conflict.
Research interests: collective memory, political violence, social movements, culture in movements, and political generations
