Görkem Altınörs is a Visiting Fellow at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of Scuola
Normale Superiore in Florence, and a member of the Centre on Social Movement Studies
(COSMOS). He holds a PhD in Politics (University of Nottingham) and an MA in International
Political Economy (University of Sheffield), and he is currently working on his TÜBİTAK-funded project “A Study on Repertoires of Solidarity Among Muslim Migrants in Italy”. He also serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University. Previously, he co-edited the volume Turkey and the Global Political Economy (I.B. Tauris/Bloomsbury) and published his research in journals including International Political Sociology, The British Journal of Politics and International Relations, Globalizations, Turkish Studies, and Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies. His research mainly focuses on political sociology and international political economy, with a particular interest in migrant solidarity, global reactionary movements, and the circular economy.
Within his current project at COSMOS, he investigates the diverse forms of solidarity mobilised by Turkish migrant communities within the context of evolving civic conditions and socio-political challenges. By employing multi-sited qualitative fieldwork, his work aims to contribute to ongoing academic debates on migrant agency, civic engagement, and social resilience. Furthermore, his broader theoretical research explores authoritarian neoliberalism, state theory, and Gramscian approaches to the global political economy.
