On the 22nd of March, from 4pm to 7pm, Donatella della Porta (Scuola Normale Superiore) and Maurizio Landini (Secretary General of CGIL) will discuss about labour, trade unions and conflicts.
The transformations of Italian capitalism in the last decades have weakened labour, reduced stable employment, scaled back social protection and the role of trade unions, increased inequality. At the same time, labour is taking on new forms, characterized by the increased weight of precarious and part-time contracts, the role of digital platforms, the fragmentation of activities and qualifications, the migrants’ work, and by the widespread low wages.
Starting from these difficult conditions, labour has returned to the social and political scene with new conflicts and mobilizations, and the trade union faces the challenge of giving voice, protection and representation to all workers and establishing its own role on the political and institutional arena.
The dialogue between Donatella della Porta, a social movement scholar, and Maurizio Landini, the new Secretary General of the CGIL will be an opportunity to tackle all these issues from different angles.
The event will take place in Italian and will be live streamed via the SNS YouTube channel.
