Anders Svensson is a PhD student at Scuola Normale Superiore and a member of The Centre on Social Movement Studies (Cosmos). He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sociology from the University of Gothenburg, where his academic exploration also encompassed history of ideas and psychology. His master’s thesis, conducted under the guidance of Mattias Wahlström, employed a mixed methods approach to analyze types of prognostic framing among participants in the 2019 global climate strikes.

Engaged both as a researcher and an activist in the European environmental movement, his research interests is connected to strategic action in the nexus of structural determinants and the innovative and emancipatory powers of social movement agents. His PhD project explores the strategic process and causes for strategic choices or turn-outs within the Northern European climate movement.
Moreover, he is also interested in how activists imagine and temporally structure the climate crisis and how forms of future imaginaries interplay with attitudes and overall engagement in the climate movement.

Marco Deseriis, Lorenzo Zamponi, Diego Ceccobelli
This article focuses on a neglected aspect of the climate action movement Fridays for Future, namely, the relationship between its mediated communication practices and its early organizational processes. Drawing from a strand of organizational communication that underscores the constitutive dimension of communication to organizing processes, we analyze the significance of mediatized leadership and networked communication for the foundation and early development of two national chapters of Fridays for Future: Youth for Climate (YFC) Belgium and Fridays for Future Italy (FFFI).
