Lorenzo is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the Scuola Normale Superiore and a member of the Centre on Social Movement Studies (COSMOS). He is also affiliated with the think and act- tank Research and Degrowth. Lorenzo’s research interests lie at the intersection of the sociology and the anthropology of social movements, as well as political ecology.
For his PhD research, Lorenzo conducts engaged ethnography on the politics of care discourses and practices within urban commons’ movements in Naples and Barcelona, supervised by Donatella Della Porta and Andrea Felicetti. As a transdisciplinary scholar, he held a visiting position at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, under the supervision of Joan Martinez Alier. Lorenzo also holds a MSc with Distinction in Anthropology and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a bachelor’s with honors in Political, Social and International Sciences from the University of Bologna, during which he completed exchange periods in Buenos Aires and San Diego (University of California).
Aside from his academic pursuits, Lorenzo is committed to public engagement. He has written about socioecological issues for magazines such as Jacobin, Gli Asini, and Lo Straniero in Italy, with some of his texts translated into Spanish and French. As an activist, Lorenzo has been involved in multiple struggles for social and ecological justice and has been interviewed for media outlets such as The Guardian and Il Manifesto.
