Dr. Päivi Pirkkalainen works as a post-doc researcher at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of Jyvaskyla (JYU). She has defended her PhD thesis of sociology in 2013 with the thesis titled “Transnational Responsibilities and Multi-sited Strategies: Voluntary Associations of the Somali Diaspora in Finland”. Currently she is conducting research on migrant youth participation in Finland and teaching in the Master’s Degree Programme on Civil Society at JYU.
Research interests: diaspora mobilization, migrant participation, global civil society
