Pierre Monforte

I completed my PhD in Social and Political Sciences at the European University Institute in 2008. From 2008 to 2011, I was a post-doctoral fellow and part-time lecturer at the Université de Montréal. Since 2011, I am a lecturer at the University of Leicester, in the Department of Sociology. My research interests relate to social movement studies, immigration studies and European politics. I analyse social movements for the rights of migrants from a comparative and multi-level perspective. I examine theoretical and empirical questions on immigration, citizenship, and the construction of collective actions at various levels of governance in a context of europeanization. In my PhD, I compared the mobilizations of asylum-seekers and refugees in France and Germany, and I analysed their strategies of mobilization at the European Union level. Recently, I also analysed the collective actions of undocumented migrants’ movements in Canada. My present research focuses on the symbolic and geographical dimensions of the protest for the rights of migrants.
